MIKAWACHI-WARE

THE SWEET - KOMPEITO
The iconic Japanese sugar candy (under 10mm in size) is called KOMPEITO, derived from "Confeito" in Portugese.  In a time when sugar is rare and inaccesible in Japan, Confeito was brought to the island and offered to Fedual Lord Nobunaga Oda by the Portuguese Missionery in 1569 (in exchange for an agreement to preach the word of Christ! Call that diplomatic confection, or "candy bribe"!)  
 
We have chosen this kompeito candies that gives a flavorful first punch of tea bitterness, quickly followed by the sweetness of sugar.  It is an exceptional-quality sweet that grownups would love.  Personal favorite is HOJICHA tea, the roast tea is so unique and flavorful that it has a tone of popcorn.
