Real gold powder for kintsugi use are processed manually by Japanese artisans to create a range of sizes of gold dust measured in micro millimeter, and cannot be diffenrentiate by nake eyes. 
Different size gold dust is used to create different effect in maki-e art. 
 
Maru means rounded.  Marufun is a larger gold particle as compared to keshifun so it can be burnished to shine after application and curing.  It also requre the use of a powdering tube as the particle is heavier and difficult to be picked up with a dusting brush. Visually, you may not be able to see much difference between keshi gold and maru gold.  But application method is different.

For reference, 1g of gold powder can roughly complete 1 large 20cm plate repair with long, 4-6 cracks. OR 1g can cover multiple, maybe 8-10, small repairs like a chipped edges or hairline cracks.  But all projects are different, you can probably gauge your needs after experiencing a few projects.
