"Hyot-to-ko" ひょっとこ is a traditonal comical character in Kagura shinto rituals ceremonial dance and Noh comedy plays. It also translates as the "fire man". It has a puckered mouth skewed to the side, and wears a headscarf with blue and white dots. Performer would wear a mask of Hyottoko funny face and dance in festivals. Hyottoko is believed to bring happiness and fortune, so bring him home!
His counterpart is a female character call Okame. The couple brings joy to people in theatre plays and are known as the symbol of Happy Blissful Marriage and partnership.
